Lake Volta is the largest artificial lake in the world by surface area. The dam, built in 1965, provides Ghana with electricity for its population.
As a result, the lake is also a vital fishing resource, engaging the entire population of the small villages along its shores. Over several days, I experienced the rhythm of life in the village of Kete-Krachi, from the daily boat trips for fishing to the drying of fish for local sale. In the afternoons, the locals worked on making and repairing fishing nets.
